The Uganda Nile’s Diaspora International Film Festival Official Film Selections for 2012

The Uganda Nile’s Diaspora International Film Festival Announces the Official Film Selections for 2012 – The Sheraton Kampala.

For Immediate Release –  NDIFF (Uganda Nile’s Diaspora International Film Festival), a non-profit organization announces the official selections of the 2012 Film Festival program, presented by Vision Group & Hosted by Sheraton Kampala and IREC. The Festival will run from Friday, December 7th to Saturday, December 15th in Kampala, with its central hub at Sheraton Kampala.

NDIFF’s mission is to establish itself on the festival circuit and calendar as a world-class event, showcasing the best in new African and International cinema and providing the Ugandan movie-loving public with access to critically acclaimed filmmakers, film industry professionals, and emerging talent from around the world.

In its premier version, NDIFF will screen over 61 feature films, shorts, and animation, representing more than 20 countries. This year, the Festival received more than 165 submissions from filmmakers around the world! The final selections represent 28 African premieres, and 4 Blockbuster festival debuts from Nigeria, Africa’s filmmaking superpower.

The festival kicks off with a bang on Friday 7th December, when Africa Magic / M-Net hosts a VIP cocktail as part of the opening Night, with Iryn Namubiru & The Fusion Band offering live performances, some prominent Diaspora artistes and locals in entertainment, before the opening film sets the screen alight.

With 2 films in the non-competition category, 56 films will be in for competition for the following 7 awards:
Best Full Feature, Best Short, Best Documentary, Best Of Uganda – Feature, Best Of Uganda – Short, Director’s Award and the Audience Choice Award where the public will be calling and texting to a dedicated phone line throught the festival to vote for their favorite film.

4 Honoree Awards recipients – Nadia Buari (Ghanaian Supermodel and Actress), Jim Iyke (Nigerian Actor & Producer), Prof.Alhaj Badru Kateregga (Kampala Film School) and Mrs. Mira Nair (Maisha Film Lab), will climax the Awards Gala Night to be hosted at the Fountain at Sheraton Kampala Hotel on 15th December in another night of glitz and glamour. We’ve received tremendous support from the business community and can’t wait to present this rich, diverse program to audiences,” said Festival Co-Director Phad Mutumba. “We’ve created a series of highly entertaining, memorable experiences for our filmmakers and audiences.

In a fully packed week, high-profile screenings one must not to miss will include Hollywood’s award winning Hopelessly In June (USA), High Chicago (Canada), Cry Of Love (South Africa) – Featuring Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Last Flight to Abuja (Nigeria) featuring Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Jim Iyke, Mirror Boy (Nigeria) featuring Genevievve Najji & Osita Iheme.
