Zanzibar International Film Festival
Posted: 29 Mar, 2010Zanzibar International Film Festival (or ZIFF for short) is a remarkable annual event held in the picturesque Old Fort in Stone Town on the beautiful island of Zanzibar.
ZIFF, originally known as the Festival of the Dhow Countries, has been running for just over ten years and is a non-profit non-governmental organisation based in Zanzibar. ZIFF aims to protect and conserve the rich cultural heritage of the region while showcasing the works of modern contemporary artists.
The Zanzibar International Film Festival is held in a number of locations in Stone Town, focused within the House of Wonders (the Zanzibar Museum of History and Culture) and the adjoining Old Fort, with its ancient amphitheatre perfect for outdoor film screening. Activities available during ZIFF include film screenings, film industry get-togethers, workshops, seminars, street theatre, story-telling, and live music and dance performances. There really is something for everyone, and this unique event is a chance to learn about Africa’s cultural heritage as told to you by Africans themselves.
